Drip Box

Single-serve drip bags and drip boxes: fresh, properly roasted coffee anywhere, with no equipment at all. Each bag is its own filter — tear it open, hang it on the rim of your cup, pour hot water through it, and you have a pour over in about two minutes. Which drip box to choose

All the boxes hold the same format, so pick on the coffee inside:

• Colombia — smooth, sweet and balanced. The safe choice if you are buying for someone else or for an office.
• Costa Rica — clean, sweet and balanced, a touch brighter than the Colombia.
• Brazil — the rounded, chocolatey one, and the easiest to drink black.
• Ethiopia — the most aromatic in the range, bright and floral. The one to buy if you actually like filter coffee rather than just needing caffeine.
• Colombia Decaf — for after dinner, on a flight, or at 9pm when you want the ritual without the caffeine.

Who these are actually for

Drip bags solve a specific problem: you want good coffee somewhere you cannot put a grinder and a kettle. Hotel rooms, desk drawers, long-haul flights, camping, a villa kitchen you have not unpacked yet, a spare-room guest who drinks coffee when you do not. They are also the most practical corporate gift in coffee — light enough to post, no equipment required at the other end, and nothing to explain.

A tip worth the ten seconds: pour a small amount first, let the grounds bloom for about thirty seconds, then pour the rest slowly in two or three additions rather than all at once. It makes a real difference, and it is the only technique involved.
